Whatever you think of Frank Trigg you can’t deny he knows his shit and earns his wage talking MMA. Great stuff here. Trigg talks Fedor, Mir, Lesnar, why he was taken off the Affliction color commentary and who he thinks is the best fighter in the world. Guy is great at what he does.
I’ve been pretty luck the last couple weeks. Ryan Bader did a great interview with the Fukerton. Jens Pulver killed it with his segment and now we get to hear from Varner. What a great dude with great head on his shoulders. Jamie spoke with us about his upcoming title defense against Donald Cerrone and his choice to leave the UFC for the WEC. Jamie discussed the success of his camp at Arizona Combat, whether MMA fans are racist and does Brock Lesnar deserve his title. Jamie is a great champion and a nice dude. At 24, he’s got a long prosperous career ahead of him and I look forward to seeing his continued success.
Jens is a class act. I have lots of issues with my family as well so he is a man I can relate on a personal level. The shit that this guy is having to overcome right now is unreal. The emotion he shows in this interview in genuine and should be admired. It’s rare you find a fighter of Pulver’s caliber that is this honest and forthcoming. I can’t imagine how he is going to get into the ring with Faber and move past all of these issues, but I know one thing. I will be pulling for Lil Evil.
If you use this interview, please link the article. Don’t just embed the video. Thank you.
Frank Mir has rapidly become one of my favorite fighters. Not just because he’s at the top of his game, but because it seems he has lost of remnants of doucheyness he may have had in the past. The questions given to Mir on MMA live are not the best, but you can’t deny the great booking for this program. Mir, Evans, Bonnar and more. Put this fucking show on television ESPN, it is being wasted on the web.
The video above is from the laundry list of offenses committed by Gilbert Yvel. I wasn’t that familiar with him either. I knew he fought Cheick Kongo had the reputation for being a dirty fighter. What I did not know is all the henious ass shit he has been doing during his fighting career. Sherdog.com had a nice rundown they put together for ESPN which you can view for yourself:
The rap sheet:
• vs. Karimula Barkalaev in 1998: Yvel was disqualified for biting his opponent.
• vs. Dan Henderson in 2000: Yvel landed a calculated elbow directly behind Henderson’s ear while Henderson was working for a takedown.
• vs. Don Frye in 2001: Yvel repeatedly gouged Frye’s eyes, was eventually disqualified and placed his hands on the referee.
• vs. Atte Backman in 2004: Yvel assaulted the referee by knocking him to the ground and then kicking his hapless frame into unconsciousness.
• vs. the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 2007: Yvel was denied a fighter’s license in the state after commissioners evaluated his prior behavior.
Affliction doesn’t need this kind of headache. Is anyone going to plunk down 50 dollars to see Yvel fight? Even if you would argue that everyone likes to slow down to look at a car accident, what if it’s a road no one drives down? This isn’t like having Mike Tyson fight someone. That’s a car crash on 95 north. Yvel is car crash in your driveway. No one outside of the hard core MMA community has even heard of this buffoon, so he will bring in no additional PPV buys. Couple that with the fact that there is a good chance he will do something stupid to bring shame to a company that is fighting for it’s very existence. Affliction has put on one good fight. It has also overpaid for almost all it’s fighters, had to cancel its second fight once already and entered into some questionable business partnerships. (Golden Boy and EliteXC.) Is this the type of individual you want involved in what may prove to be the most important night in your companies history?
One could say that their isn’t a Light Heavyweight on earth that can beat Rampage three times in a row. I’ve watched his fights with the Axe Murderer several times and it seems that Quinton went in with the right game plan. Take Silva down and neutralize those brutal knee strikes and kicks. The problem is he was baited into standing. While I think Jackson would be favored in a bout of hands throwing in most instances, he can’t seem to best Wandy if they are upright. The Proof is above. Couple that with the fact that there is something not right with Rampage mentally. His legal issues were well documented and his drastic change in training is odd. I normally would pick Rampage when in doubt, but he’s got some serious unresloved issues and Wanderlei is coming of a serious rape choking of Keith Jardine. Silva is also pissed:
“Every fighter wants to be [the champion], and I am no different,” Silva said. “But whether I am champion or not, nothing has made me work harder and train better than the opportunity to fight this guy again. And you know what? I don’t just want to beat him. I want to knock him out. Of course, I always go for the knockout, but with this guy, this is very important to punish him and get that kind of a finish. It’s going to be a great fight.”
“He’s got a big mouth and he’s always out on the Internet talking,” Silva said. “But we’ll see how much talking he does once we fight again.”
Rampage is a hell of a fighter, but talking shit and subsequently pissing off a brazilian Shootfighter of the Year that’s knocked him through the ropes is not splitting the atom. Can’t wait for the 27th.
Lashley needed just 41 seconds to make a statement to the mixed martial arts community. He’s no fake wrestler and he’s here to stay. Bobby has always been good to us here at the Fukerton and that’s why we forgive his kids going a little crazy in the background. The former ECW champion tells how he would defeat Brock Lesnar and more in this exclusive interview with the classiest blog on the web.
This guy. This fucking guy. He can throw hands, he can snap arms and he could talk his way out of a life sentence. Kenflo gives 10 out of 10 answers to all my 3.5 out of 10 questions in this 20 minute lesson on how to talk mixed martial arts. No wonder ESPN wants this guy on MMA Live. He’s the real f-ing deal. Florian talks about his upcoming title fight, possible rematches with Sean Sherk and Nightmare Sanchez, Brock Lesnar’s heavyweight title, Anderson Silva’s future in the UFC, Gina Carano in the WEC and a slew more. If he decides to stop cracking skulls and choking fools out, he should start selling ANYTHING. He could sell hurricane insurance policies to people is Stillwater all day long if it came down to it.
While this may not be the most impressive opponent, Lashley is going about this thing the right way. His plan is to go 5-0 before stepping up to a major promotion. With his wrestling background and strength, there is no reason this guy could not compete in the watered down UFC heavyweight division. Will he have the success his former colleague Brock Lesnar? Only time will tell. What he is doing is giving himself a shot and mirroring Lesnar’s transition. We here at the Fukerton wish Lashley nothing but the best in his MMA endeavours. He is a class act and deserves everything he receives.
