I’m a humble man. I know when I’m whipped. I need help from a fellow “enthusiast.” You gun nerds know it’s rough when you look like an idiot in front of your fellow gun nerd. I’m willing to do that here. Thanks in advance to everyone that doesn’t answer this plea for help with: “…put the gun up to your temple.” That might help you, my friends and family but that does nothing for me.

Let’s see the ammo box, Chad.

Dude, I don’t know anything about guns, I’m just glad you didn’t kill yourself at the end of that video. Because the inner film director in me sensed that’s where it was heading.

2 things i can think of, first it is a colt 1911 45 acp yes? make sure its not 45 gap ammo, second is it could be a faulty mag, original colt mags have a small c on the bottem and they fit and opperate the best by far, reproduction mags are hit or miss for fit and function, but youll spend more on factory ones

“Like the Marines do.”

I was thinking the same thing about the .45 ACP versus .45 GAP.
You didn’t buy the ammo in a burlap sack from a shadowy Israeli gentleman, did you?
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:24 pm
sure the magazine isn’t a .45 S&W and not Colt?
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:29 pm
It should take .45 acp.
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:39 pm
another thing you can try is to pull the slide back and chamber a round manually to see if its the round or the mag
November 24th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Wrong ammo you need .45acp (auto colt pistol) not .45 gap or .45 colt
November 24th, 2009 at 12:16 am
As stated above I would double check that the rounds you have are .45 ACP and not .45 GAP. Though from what I can see it doesn’t look to be .45 GAP ammo you are holding. Also I couldn’t quite tell from your video but I would also double check that you are depressing the follower in the mag enough for the round to slide in, I just double checked on my mags (Taurus PT 1911) and I had to push it down further than it looked like it went in the video. Also check that the follower will move freely without a round, maybe some carbon or something is jamming it up keeping the follower from going far enough down. Hope this helps Chad we need to get some rounds flying out of that .45!!!

Damn, the other replies were quick off the gate. It definitely needs .45ACP ammo. I would also second what Sean stated that maybe there is some carbon/debris in the magazine.
For the record, you definitely look prepared for the upcoming Zombie invasion.

When I saw the heading thought for sure you wanted me to explain the ending of the Twilight Move: New Moon. And I was going to be SOL because I haven’t seen it yet. Wow, I called that one wrong.

12 comments between 11pm and 2am last night! I’m not even a gun owner nor enthusiast, but I thoroughly enjoy more of Ol’ Thad discussing firearms whenever it comes up, the very subject and your point of view is engaging.

Like others before me have stated, double check that you have .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) rounds as opposed to the .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol). Additionally, you might inspect the mag to insure the round clip on the top mag is not bent excessively or even damaged. Hope that is helpful.

BTW, that is a GREAT pistol and lots of fun to shoot!! One of my faves. Just a great classic. Enjoy.

Looks like everything I can think of is already up there. I would be interested if Mr Chad Dukes could publish the contents of his armory. From what I can tell, he’s made great choices. The Colt 1911 and The Judge to name a few. If it’s a personal thing, I understand that too.

Chad you need 45 acp ammo, not colt 45. There is a massive difference in the ammo.Colt 45 is bigger than 45 acp.

The ending part about helping you load your .45 round into your .45 pistol was intense chad.

Chad, I met you at Silver Eagle Group, I had the 1911 .45 if you remember. All I can say is you should be able to load that with the experience you have in dealing with magazine loading firearms, is there any chance that it fires a .40 cal, a lot of manufactures make 1911s in 9mm, .40, and .45 cal variants these days. Or maybe the guy gave you the wrong mag (a mag for .40 cal should fit a gun for .45 although if it says .45 acp on there then that’s what it should take.) I own 2 1911’s, my classic Auto Ordnance which you saw and my new Kimber Covert II. Can’t say loadings been a problem, only thing that comes to mind is it’s actually .40 cal. Maybe try that, even if the .40 cal fits you’ll know if that’s what it’s meant for when you fire the weapon (it’ll fire normally however the slide won’t cycle another round, not enough force.)

It\’s not a good idea to try to shoot 40 out of our 45. At best it shoots fine, at worst it destroys your barrel. Check the barrel and the mag, they\’ll tell you exactly what you need. Unless something really weird is going on, it\’ll be 45 ACP, not 45 colt or 45 GAP.
Nice gun by the way. That\’ll be a lot of fun to shoot.

looks like you’re trying to put .45 colt rounds in when it takes .45 acp
November 27th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Yeah you prob need .45ACP Bro Pesci, and kudos for not calling it a goddamn “clip”.
December 1st, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Fukes, you need the 45 cal ACP. I too am a fellow gun nut. Cock on!

My favorite quote from Gen. George S. Patton, when asked why he carried a .45 he said “Because they don’t make a .46″
