Why isn’t this show on ESPN?

This is the latest episode of MMA Live, ESPN’s web based Mixed Martial Arts show.  Think Baseball Tonight but not borning and awful.  Do have any idea how much shitty programming is on ESPN and ESPN 2?  Do you know how many car auctions?  Do you know how BAD First Take is?  Are you aware of the suckage surrounding Mike Greenberg?

This MMA Live show isn’t the best show I’ve ever seen, but it’s pretty fucking good.  It looks slick, they got Frank Mir (whom I like doing the WEC color) and the sport is blowing up.  Why the shit is ESPN producing a TV quality MMA show  and regulating it to soley the interweb??  It seems like a thumb to the eye of the entire sport and all their fans.

“Ya, we COULD be doing a pretty good MMA show.  Here it is.  Now enjoy waiting for it buffer you groundlings, we are going to put ANOTHER college baseball game on tv.”  Do you know how much little league baseball is on ESPN?  How much Tennis?  How many drag races?  The only thing I can think is that ESPN is telling the MMA community to pound it up their ass, we COULD be doing this show, but we aren’t.

ESPN sucks ass. They have not been relevant in 10 years. They just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. So you have those days where they do 18 hours of the world series of poker from 3 years ago, and try to pass it off as top notch programming.

  2. Packman Says:

Sorry, ESPN is too committed to “real” sports. Like Scrabble championships, Dominoes, and especially Poker (with they show multiple hours a week, in prime time no less).

  3. rayman Says:

ESPN is like MTV, pretty soon they’ll be covering more scandals for little whiney bitches, than gary the banana.

  4. G-Money Says:

It’s ESPN’s reluctance to recognize the difficulty and athleticism needed in MMA and cover it as a legitimate sport. It seems kind of arrogant, a “we know what real sports are” attitude. They are missing the boat. You can’t tell me MMA doesn’t have more viewers than poker, strongman competitions, or the WNBA.

Don’t forget how much terrible, and I mean, terrible “Madden Nation” is on TV. The only redeeming value of having a bunch of unemployed losers ride around on a bus like they are in the And 1 Mixtape Tour and give themselves “hot” nicknames is that it may teaches kids not to be complete wastes of space that play video games all day. I like Madden and NCAA as much as the next dude with a penis, but that is ridiculous, there is not one sucessful and/or normal looking person on that show, I watched 15 min and it was Springer with video games. Pathetic.

If they show the National Spelling Bee, I’m sure they can find a way to show MMA.

Hey Dukes, just wanted to let you know that people do read the blog, we just don’t leave comments

it’s pretty cool because it seems like a legit show. They really should use it! Like Fukes said, There is so much junk on ESPN and it’s channels. This could be a very popular addition to their actual line up. Thanks for the heads up Fukes.

  9. Wolverine Says:

This show had great things to say about Amir Sadollah after TUF 7.

The UFC feels they don’t need ESPN to be successful. If ESPN isn’t following the sport at full force, so be it. If MMA continues on its current path, sports news will pay attention.

yeah it sucks its not on espn, but at least you can get the info from a variety of other sources. and maybe espn and mma dont think they need each other, which may be true, but it sure as hell would help boost both sides ratings. i wonder if its just a generational gap between the suits at espn not understanding what the younger generations want. i also would not doubt that the big wigs in the NFL,MLB, etc, are pushing to keep mma away from espn. i would not doubt if there were behind the scene deals going on to keep ratings going towards the money hogs.

Nice find, Dukes – thanks. I liked the show, it had a really high production value. Hopefully some day I won’t have to watch it on my little laptop screen.

A MMA-Boxing co-promotion shows that anything is possible… give ESPN some time… MMA is growing, but it is not exploding…. ESPN wasn’t showing poker when Doyle Brunson was winning braclets, or even when Matt Damon was Rounding… MMA will be on ESPN, it will happen eventually… but MMA needs to prove itself viable for the long run… where was the UFC 10 years ago? Give it time…

  14. BigWreck Says:

ESPN only pumps the crap it airs, hence no MMA coverage on SportsCenter. Case in point is there lack of NHL coverage, ever since the National Hockey League left ESPN for Versus the mighty ESPN has all but eliminated their hockey coverage. You may get a quick highlight or a score at the very end of the broadcast as an afterthought. They are too busy covering a story about T.O.’s ingrown fingernail to cover real sports.
